This place is very open and friendly to newbies. I walked in on a Sunday to get info for my kid. Had my son do 1 day trial and he was hooked, they were so patient and attentive to new students. Plus they have community events which brings all the parents together.
I've recently joined CJJF and it's my first BJJ experience. I have both a judo and wrestling background so I wanted to try something different.
I'm a very shy person and wanted to come out of my comfort zone so that's why I've decided to join this club. The staffing and coaches are extremely friendly and welcomed me right away! The coaches and staff are very patient and are willing to teach above and beyond!
The dojo is very clean and organized. There are classes everyday which is great if you have a busy schedule. I'm very happy and excited to continue coming to practice! If you're looking to start BJJ somewhere and don't know where to go, I highly recommend CJJF!!
I highly recommend checking out this gym. I dropped in because I was looking for a place to train while I was on vacation. I am so glad that I chose CJJF Central.
Every interaction I had from the beginners class instructor and advanced class instructor to the head professor was absolutely amazing. I was welcomed with open arms and had such a fun time that I'm itching to plan another trip and train here.
FYI - Location is on the second floor and you need to get buzzed in to get through the locked gate on the left of the building. Once you enter the walkway follow the stairways to the right and enter the gym through the back door which has the CJJF logo.
Do not hesitate to try out this gym. You will not regret it.
My 5-year old son has only been coming to CJJF Central for a few months since summer, and he loves it. Heʻs made new friends, and the coaches are excellent! They make the lessons child-friendly by making it game oriented. It is definitely a very family-oriented place; they have family events like a picnic and movie night, which allows for bonding and getting to know others who are a part of the CJJF family. I highly recommend.
Love doing the 1 hr yoga sculpt class (in addition to their jiu jitsu classes). Yoga sculpt instructor and people are awesome. Its bit of yoga and a bit more sculpt. Combination of yoga poses and movements then incorporating HIIT exercises. No need to be afraid as instructor encourages and you can work at your own pace from easy level to torture mode as all body types are welcome. I always end with a soaking shirt because I choose torture. You will feel better physically and spiritually after classes.
For the longest time, I’ve had a hard time deciding on which self-defensive/grappling association would benefit my son the most, and I’m SO glad this academy was recommended to me.
There are so many positive things to say about this place: friendly (yet assertive) coaches, awesome locale, welcoming atmosphere, affordable, long-lasting friendships, the list goes on.
The coaches work so hard with these kids to ensure they are executing the proper forms/techniques all the while maintaining their cool (especially with the younger ones, lol) and instilling discipline-and that’s no easy feat.
I couldn’t be more proud of this place and if you decide to bring your kid (or yourself) here, you would not be disappointed!
My older son started jujitsu here about 3 years ago and it has been the best gym ever for not only himself but also for my ohana. I have younger one who was not even a year at that time, they have little back room for siblings and he gets to play with others during his brother’s class. They have family friendly events like beach day potluck, movie nights, Halloween& Christmas parties and more. We had entered Naga tournaments and coaches and professors helped him to prepare for it even on Saturdays. Now my younger son turned 4 and he can’t wait to join the jujitsu!!
Professor Jon and his staff of coaches is one of the best environments we have ever experienced. They have dedicated staff that feels passionately about the sport but also about you personally. Our son joined at barely 5 years old and trained with them for 2 years. We moved and we were heart broken to leave. This facility fosters a learning environment for children that is fun, safe and welcoming to all. Our son built friendships there and it became more than just jiu jitsu class but a family. Their number one priority is the safety of the children but ensuring they stay engaged and learn. Our son is a product of that environment and in that 2 years grew tremendously in skill and personal confidence in himself. I highly recommend this for anyone starting out in the sport or moving to the area and continue in it.
I have been to multiple schools on the island and Professor Jon and Coach Cyrus definitely make you feel like family immediately. Professor Jon does a great job with the adults program incorporating all the lessons together in a format anyone can understand and put the dots together.
Coach Cyrus has a way with the kids program, he amazing and patient with them. My daughter loves going to class! The program has a perfect balance of instruction, drill, sparring, and games.
Schedule and location was also important to me and their new state of the art school has a great schedule for kids and adults. Parking, parking, and parking so many spots with space on both sides where you don't have to worry about door dings.
In short I highly recommend giving them a vist and see for your self!
CJJF is an outstanding gym for beginner or advanced jiu jitsu enthusiasts; they create an atmosphere of family and love for the sport! My son began at age 3 1/2 and the coaches and professors were so patient with him and the other 12+ kids that attended. Over time, the kids class grew to more than 20 and that’s because these coaches and professors are some of the best I’ve seen! In addition to creating a fun family atmosphere for your kids, this team enjoys get togethers on the weekends where students and family members can grow as one large ohana. For adults, (I attended Monday - Thursday) they have a variety of classes 6-7 days a week tailored to your skill level. These guys and gals are not trying to throw their egos around either, they truly want each adult to grow and learn the technique to be better each time they roll. I cannot stress how amazing this place is for all ages. This place is more than a jiu jitsu gym, they are a family and want to welcome all who want to learn! 10/10!!
When I asked my coach back home what to look for in a good gym when I told him I’d be in Hawaii for a month, he gave me three things: cleanliness, good coaching, and community. I can safely say the CJJF exceeded my expectations in all of these categories. In fact, I can’t wait for my visit to Hawai’i so I can train here again.
What I like about CJJF is that not only are you not allowed to have shoes on the mats, but you have to take them off when you enter the building, so the whole room is clean. They spray it down every night after class as well.
As for coaching, I have nothing but great things to say about the head coach, Jon. He is always so eager to help you, and gives you feedback as you see fit. Jon is also not the only one who coaches. He allows different people to coach his classes, which I think is great because it exposes the class to different methods of teaching, and different techniques.
Lastly, the community at CJJF is absolutely wonderful. I am a very awkward person, but the first day I went, I was instantly welcomed. Also, Jon isn’t the only one who is willing to help, everyone is. CJJF is a family, so if you are looking for a super awesome BJJ community for yourself or even your kid, I would definitely recommend you try out CJJF.
